Bombina, the fire-bellied toad, wants to invite you on a discovery journey through her habitat. Just follow the signs showing the toad on the bicycle.

A symphony of Mother Nature

The route starts at the fishery farm in Kleinholscha, partly goes over meadows and fields, along ponds towards Quoos, then goes north through Holschdubrau before reaching Neudorf, continuing to Neschwitz and back to Kleinholscha.

Directions

Follow the route preferably counterclockwise, as the signage is patchy in the opposite direction.

After Kleinholscha, cross the B96 and follow the meadow path. Don't be confused if the path is somewhat overgrown – it leads into the forest at the edge of the field. You are on the right track when you find the frog marking at the forest edge.

Next, there is a well-marked path section along the orchid meadow to an observation tower and the ponds up to the old pond and further to the paved path between Holschdubrau and Quoos. Here, turn left and after a few meters turn right again into the birch avenue.

Now the path leads you south around the Litzenteich. For this section up to the southern end of the pond, the route is not quite clear; zoom the map in a bit for more detail. Unfortunately, the path is sometimes very muddy here. But don’t worry – a beautiful section follows with the opportunity to rest directly at Litzenteich with a bench, great views, and several information boards.

At the northern end of Litzenteich, head north on the path between Luppa and Quoos. Here, turn left towards the pine forest and follow the path to the single-family house in the forest. Here, the path forks, and you ride north towards Holschdubrau. This section is easily passable, although meadows ponds and swampy forests border the path on both sides.

From Holschdubrau to Neudorf, ideally follow the hiking mark with the blue line, as the frog marking is unfortunately very rare until then. !!!! Do not follow the marking of the frog bike path that you cross in Holschdubrau!!!!

In Neudorf, you have to cross the B96 again but can surprise children with a small playground at the edge of the village.

Now you reach the Neschwitz palace park and turn right towards the castle after the black and gold bridge. Take enough time to explore the castle grounds. Your “tip of the car.”

Now go back to the black and gold bridge, but do not cross it. Instead, go straight ahead and follow the river (Hoyerswerdaer Schwarzwasser).

Then cross the S98 (road to Neschwitz), go left past the oak tree straight across the field to the old railway bridge. This path takes you back to Kleinholscha, the destination of this route.

Recommended equipment

Traffic-safe bicycle, bicycle helmet, day cycling backpack (approx. 20 liters) with rain cover, comfortable sports shoes, possibly cycling shoes, weather-appropriate and robust clothing in layers, air pump, bicycle tools, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone.

The route partly goes over rutted forest paths, which remain muddy for a long time after rain, so we recommend sturdy waterproof footwear.

Safety notice

Due to patchy network coverage, we recommend downloading the route before starting and then, if necessary, using it offline.

Please do not enter the forests in adverse weather conditions (risk of falling branches, etc.).

Follow the route preferably counterclockwise, as the signage is patchy in the opposite direction.

Contact and arrival

Turn left off the B96 coming from Bautzen shortly before Neschwitz towards Kleinholscha. The fishery farm is located on the right at the village exit.
