The village in the biosphere reserve and home of the waterman

Following the tracks of flora and fauna, an exciting journey begins at the HOUSE OF A THOUSAND PONDS in the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve. Let yourself be surprised by what nature has in store for you and explore the biosphere village of Wartha.

Guttau/Wartha is a paradise for nature lovers who seek peace and relaxation and want to encounter a unique ecosystem. Since the 18th century, an efficient pond economy has developed here, which is still in operation today.

In Wartha is the biosphere reserve administration and the HOUSE OF A THOUSAND PONDS, a visitor information centre with a barrier-free experience exhibition and many information options. Here you can obtain numerous details for exploring the nature experience trail, the sea eagle circular route, wild herb tours and many other topics.

The surroundings are also a haven for cyclists. A network of scenic cycling and hiking trails leads to many of the 350 ponds and allows space for the individual discovery of the impressive biological diversity.
